A striking large-scale composition exploring perception, control, and fragmented identity.
Through bold contrasts and symbolic figures, Karina constructs a visual passage between what is seen and what remains hidden.
Beschreibung
In The Blind Mainstream, Karina creates a psychologically charged landscape in which perception, identity, and control intersect with abuse, manipulation, and disorientation. The composition unfolds as a distorted spatial corridor — a black-and-white path leading into an unstable, almost organic environment shaped by fragmented figures and symbolic gestures.
Behind its bold visual language, the work evokes the inner state of a person who has been exploited, violated, and psychologically displaced — someone no longer fully anchored in reality, no longer certain where they are, what is happening, or who still holds power over them. The imagery suggests systems of abuse in which vulnerability is manipulated, innocence is damaged, and control is exercised through fear, confusion, and emotional or physical domination.
Faces appear partially concealed or altered, bodies dissolve into abstraction, and visual elements oscillate between presence and distortion. The work speaks to the condition of girls and women trapped in spaces of coercion, objectification, and misuse of power — rendered not through direct narrative, but through symbolic fragmentation and visual tension.
Executed in oil and mixed media on canvas, the piece reveals an additional dimension under UV light, where hidden layers and fluorescent elements emerge, intensifying the sense of dual reality. This duality reinforces the conceptual core of the work: a shifting boundary between surface appearance and concealed trauma, between what society sees and what it refuses to acknowledge.
With its large format and immersive composition, The Blind Mainstream positions itself as both a visual experience and a psychological inquiry — confronting the viewer with the instability of perception and the violence that can hide beneath systems that appear normal.
This work is informed by contemporary realities of power, manipulation, and systemic silence, reflecting on what remains visible yet insufficiently confronted.
It evokes a psychological state of disorientation, control, and vulnerability, where autonomy becomes fragile and reality itself appears destabilized.
